Christmas styles & trends 2023

“Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a frame of mind.”
β€” Miracle on 34th Street

Last weekend we went out to spot the new Christmas trends at the fair. This year there is an big demand for warmth and fun in the house. Some stores and garden centers have already started setting up their Christmas decor which means you can see the themes a lot sooner.

We saw enough themes pop by and will give you an overview on what’s to come.

Christmas On Stage

Traditional Christmas with a wink towards the past. Nice nostalgia. The tradtional christmas lights in candle shapes, gould & silver, red baubels combined with the Scottish tartan and a tough of royal british flair. We’ll see rocking horses, bears, nutcrackers, animal figures and much more. Ofcourse holly branches can’t be left out. This theme is absolutely timeless.

Fairy Forest

For the enthusiast of a more calm and natural style. Nature is a central theme in this trend. Materials such as cinnamon sticks, dried oranges and berries are used in combination with dried flowers, eucalyptus, pinecones, wood, burlap, rope etc. The colours you see are browns with pinks. You also see forest animals and lots of mushrooms. The enchantment of the forest.

Candy Floss/ Multicolour

A true colour explosion. If you are into a more daring style that makes a statement then this is your theme. Pinks, white, mint, pastel gold, bright & vibrant colours, flowers and branches, cup cakes, glitter, candy canes, food etc. Anything is possible. This year Barbie is a part of this too. Modern ornaments in bright colours.

Festive Ballroom

An elegant, romantic style with soft pinks. Subtle and chique. Ornaments are in soft pink pastels with a tough of sage. A beautiful wintery theme with a luxurious character.

Santa’s Bakery

Ofcourse the Scandinavian red-wit theme is back with its gingerbread houses, cooking & baking ornaments, mice and other fun getups.

All about the stars

Modest, timeless and elegant with stars as the center of attention. From subtle star motifs to copious star ornaments. We see different dimmed colours in combination with sparkling stars. The colours we see are brown with cream. This gives the theme an elegant, modest feel with a touch of Christmas magic.

Winter Morning

This theme has a Scandinavian touch. Peaceful nuances of white, soft blue and soft brown with a woolly textile. A cool mood of a wintery setting where calm and peace are central themes. Think icicles and snow crystals. The magic of a world covered in snow. It’s an oasis of peace during the busy Christmas days.

Jungle

The jungle theme has become more popular in recent years. Tigerprints, leopard prints, animal heads. It all fits. Browns combined with black and blue. Not necessarily our style but it’s nice to see. Who dares to use this theme?

Christmas Memories

We go back to tradition an relive the good old days. The time before phones and the internet where the main aim was to spend time together. One calls it Vintage Christmas, the other calls it a walk down memory lane. It’s about celebrating Christmas together! This theme has kept growing the last couple of years and can be seen in different ways.

The Nutcracker

The nutcracker is a real hit this year. You see them in different varieties. The ultimate Christmas feel of the past.

Delft Blue

One thing we secretly really like is spotting Delft Blue Christmas baubles everywhere. This theme is expanding each year with new ornaments and decorations. Nice to add to your collection.

Disney

Disney, Marvel, Star Wars etc. Nice ornaments of your favorite characters and movies. This year you see more characters appear in wreaths and Christmas trees. Nice for young and old. Definitely something for the enthusiast!

Remaining Christmas trends for the holidays

Easy

Christmas is stressful enough. Therefore you notive people are searchings for ways to make their holidays preparations easier. Preparations start sooner and where people used to spent hours in the kitchen we are now looking for less time invasive menus or activities.

Mocktails

Non-alcoholic or less alcoholic recipes. Lately people are choosing to try recipes with less or no alcohol. Mocktails is a nice alternative for festivities without booze.

Tapas

Small dishes, warm & cold. Instead of a big piece of meat, you serve small dishes that you can share. It allows you to spend more time together, trying out different things and everyone can contribute. Ideal for big and small eaters.

Gift an experience

This year it is a trend to gift an experience. Nice outings to make new memories. For you, your partner or for the whole family. From theme parks to workshops. Something new to try together. original and something for everyone.

These were the themes and trends for this year. What are you looking forward to the most? Do you have an inkling of which one you’ll choose? Let us know in the comments.

Until next time,

The Christmas Girls
