“Cozy. It’s become so much more than a word for me, so much more than a way to decorate and design. It is now a way of life.”- Liz Marie Galvan
It’s the end of November. The Christmas days are only a few weeks away and the sense of more coziness pops up more and more. Time to adapt the necessary corners in the house.
Planning
Because we style multiple rooms, we do it in phases. Next to both our homes we also style grandma’s. So planning ahead is important to us. 3 homes, outdoor decorations, you name it. Usually we make a plan ahead of time and write down which rooms we want to style. Then we decide which rooms to tackle first.
“Cozy is more about creating a space that welcomes, nourishes, and surrounds us with warmth, love, and comfort through each changing season of the year and the everchanging seasons of our lives.” – Liz Marie Galvan

Small corners
Every home, big or small has the room the create cosy corners. Even a space on your desk works. A nice soap dispenser on your counter. Some people decorate the garden or balcony. Anything is possible. You decide which room and which spaces get your Christmas touch.
Textiles
We are a big fan of blankets & pillows. For Christmas we always place a few Christmas pillows on the couch or chairs. A nice towel in the kitchen of toilet, bathroom accessories, Christmas aprons, potholders. Enough fun ideas. Bedlinnens are also fun to decorate with. It easily brings out the Christmas vibes.
Decorations
Another fun thing is to display your Christmas mugs on your counter or kitchen isle near your coffee maker. Also think of mini Christmas trees on your window-sill or sidetable. Christmas figurines near your fireplace or on your bookshelves. If you have a dressoir you can place a small Christmas village there or a Christmas piece with candles. Wreaths on your table or display cabinet.
Wine bottles
You can use empty (wine) bottles with branches and ribbons as decor. Place them on your table or use them as part your tablesetting for Christmas dinner. You can also use empty bottles with ligths in them. Fun to see and a Christmas light is the quickest way to get some Christmas vibes going.
Christmas lights
Clear white light is seen as cold while warm white or yellow light is seen as warmer. Something to keep in mind when looking at Christmas lights. Nowadays you can also choose between standard fairylights or clusterlights. The difference is mainly the amount of lights per meter and the distance between lights. Our preference tends to go towards warm white cluster lights. The more lights, the better.
Garlands
For is these are an absolute must. You can style so many corners with is and the come in all shapes and sizes. Real ones and faux ones. It is an easy item to style with and instant mood maker. We used them in the hallway amongst others on the rail.
Christmas Wreaths
By now we own multiple of them and buy a new one each year. They are nice to use on your frontdoor, dining table or your display cabinet.
You can buy one or make one. It’s a fun activity to do and a nice gift to give to others.
Sense of Smell
Candles, scent sticks and scent bags are great to give your home that warm Christmas smell. There are so many to choose from. Our favourites are Yankee Candle & Woodwick amongst others, but the scent bags from Bridgewater are also fun to use. Sense of smell is an essential part of the Christmas mood in your house. It completes it.
Tips
During winter you can find many discounts for candles. Even supermarkets stock a supply. Definitely take a look there.
Take a look at a secondhand store for vintage baubels and ornaments. They tend to have an extensive assortment and you can find plenty of fun things. It’s also durable and low budget.
Make decorating a party. Put on some Christmas music, invite that aunt/uncle/family member/ friend to help out and enjoy the activity together. Put down some snacks or a cookie and make it a whole happening.
