There are cocktails are in many different flavours and colours. You can do the craziest things with them and they are perfect for a nice get together.

During one of the many browsings on Pinterest this little beauty by The College Housewife showed up. Colourful and easy to put together. Definitely worth a shot. The nice thing about this cocktail is that it leaves room for your own imagination. So we tried it for ourselves. You can the result below. For the original recipe see the link above.

What do you need?

Ingredients:

  • Rosemary simple syrup
  • Cranberry juice
  • Whisky
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamonsticks
  • Rosemary twigs.
  • Red berries
  • Ice cubes
  • Shaker
  • Saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Small skewers

Rosemary simple syrup

Before you get started on your cocktail, you first need to make the Rosemary simple syrup. For this you will need the following:

  • 200 ml of water
  • 3-4 rosemary twigs
  • 200 gr sugar

You take the saucepan and poor in the water, sugar and rosemary twigs. Keep this on the stove for about 20 minutes. Use the spatula to stir in between. Depending on how thick you want the syrup you can let the mixture boil for a bit longer. However: make sure it doesn’t become as thick as honey!

The Cocktail

Fill a shaker with two Cinnamon twigs, broken in half. Add a quarter of Cranberry juice, a quarter of whisky and two tablespoons of the Rosemary simple syrup. Leave some room for the ice cubes. At this stage in the process it all comes down to flavour. If you aren’t a whisky drinker than choose a light whisky like a Schottish Speyside. For this recipe we used a Cragganmore however you are free to add your personal favorite as well. If necessary, get some advise at your local liqorstore or Gall & Gall.

Put the lid on the shaker and shake everything for at least 30 seconds. Pick a cocktail glass of your choice and fill it with ice cubes. Then poor in the liquid.

Garnish

Next up is the garnish. Grab a skewer and fill it with a few berries. First dip the skewer in the Rosemary simple syrup. Then put some sugar in a bowl and put the skewer in. Twist it around several times so the berries are completely coated in sugar. Do the exact same with the remaining rosemary twigs. Put both the skewer and the rosemary twig over your glass horizontally. Tada! Easypeasy and a real eyecatcher at a party.

Beware: once the ice cubes start to melt it can make the cocktail too watery, causing it to lose flavour.

A tip from grandma Claus

If you prefer your cocktail a tad sturdier, chose a more smokey whisky as an alternative of give it a nice shot of Disaronno. Do make sure your glass has a sugarcoated layer with this alternative. It gives the taste a nice balance.
